Day 28 – December 28

1228Spend some time this week that is “Family Time.”

Choose something your whole family can do together and do it. It can be a game the family plays together, or perhaps you go to a park or go hiking. Pick something that allows everyone to interact with one another.

Turn off the phones, get rid of distractions, put away the work — just spend time with one another serving them through the gift of your presence.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially tho those who belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6.10)

We encourage you to return daily for more opportunities to serve others during these 31 Days of Service. We also encourage you to share your own ideas of service as well as the times of service you and your family perform. You can use the comment section below or tag us in social media using: #sp31days

Day 23 – December 23

1223Invite someone over for dinner whom you do not know well.

Keep the preparation simple: for instance order pizza, make a salad, and spend some time getting to know another family or person.

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity. (Acts 2.46)

Other Ideas:

•Invite another person/family to “brown bag” a picnic in the park. Allow the kids to play and just enjoy visiting with one another.

•You may chose to go out to eat, but pick an simple restaurant, perhaps a fast-food one, and one that will allow you a time to visit more than be overwhelmed about the ambiance of the meal.

Day 20 – December 20

1220Fill a box or bag with toys or clothes and donate it to a local charity that gives away these items for free. Here are some options:

•The Blessing Center at Greenlawn Church of Christ (website)

•The Lubbock Dream Center (website)

•The Salvation Army (1111 16th Street, website)

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9.7)

Day 19 – December 19

1219Increase your awareness of opportunities to serve others today. As a family, perhaps over that dinner you share together (see yesterday’s post), make a family thankful list. Ask yourself the following questions:

What are we thankful for?

How have we seen God work in our lives over this past year?

How do these items make us more willing to share our thankfulness with others?

Take your list and post it on the refrigerator door so that you will see it every day.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. He love endures forever. (Psalm 136.1.)

Other Ideas

•If someone or something someone has done is on your list, then you can serve them by sending them a card or note thanking them for their service to you.

Day 2 – December 2

1202Today give someone in your family or someone else you see during your day a genuine compliment.

We often think of big things that provide acts of service for others, but at times a simple, thoughtful word of encouragement may do more to boost someone’s spirit than any great action you could do.

When you do give someone a compliment, be sure to watch how they react. You can see their face, and often their heart, soften.

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2.2-3)

Other Ideas:

•In addition to speaking a word of encouragement to someone, leave them (or someone else) a hidden note with an encouraging word.
